BIPOLAR SPECTRUM PROGRAM
Lakeside is pleased to announce the opening of the Bipolar Spectrum Program. The new inpatient program for adults provides a specialized approach for coping with and managing Bipolar Disorder. Radwan Haykal, MD serves as Medical Director for the program and is assisted by Doug Ginn, LCSW, Lakeside’s Chief Clinical Officer.
Therapeutic modalities include:
• Specialized process groups focusing on bipolar issues
• Educational groups focused on developing more adaptive coping
skills
• Leisure education to improve skills in exercise and social
interaction
• Monitoring of mood and sleep patterns to assist patients in
identifying mood cycles
• Multi-family group to assist in family education regarding the
illness
• Participation in Depression Bipolar Support Alliance group
• Nutritional education to promote healthy living skills
Dr.
Radwan Haykal graduated from the American University of Beirut
Medical School in 1975. He completed his psychiatric residency in
1978 from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences
in Memphis, Tennessee. He has been Board Certified since 1980 and is
a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He has been in
private practice in Memphis and affiliated with Lakeside for the
past 25 years. Dr. Haykal is a Clinical Associate Professor of
Psychiatry and Family Medicine at the University of Tennessee,
Memphis. He has served as the Medical Advisor to the Depression
Bipolar Support Alliance of Memphis since its inception in 1986. He
has published several articles on mood disorders with focus on
dysthymia and bipolar disorder and has been a speaker in national
and international psychiatric forums. He is past president of the
Tennessee Psychiatric Association.
